How it works

How GPA is worked out

Each grade has a point value: A is 4.0, A- is 3.7, B+ is 3.3, B is 3.0, and so on down to F at 0. Multiply each grade’s points by the class’s credits, add those up, then divide by total credits.

Example: an A in a 3-credit class is 12 points and a B in a 4-credit class is another 12. That’s 24 points over 7 credits, a 3.43 GPA.

Weighted GPA adds 0.5 for honors and 1.0 for AP or IB. A class you fail stays at 0. Your school’s scale may differ, so check your handbook before you rely on the number.

Questions

Before you start.

How do I calculate my cumulative GPA?

Enter your GPA so far and the credits behind it, then add this term’s classes. The calculator combines both into one number, weighted by credits.

What’s the difference between weighted and unweighted GPA?

Unweighted GPA treats every class on the same 4.0 scale. Weighted GPA gives extra points for harder classes: 0.5 here for honors and 1.0 for AP or IB. Schools set their own rules.

Do pass or fail classes count?

A pass doesn’t usually count toward GPA, so choosing Pass leaves that class out. An F does count at 0 points in most schools.

Is an A+ worth more than 4.0?

This calculator counts A+ as 4.0, which is the most common rule. Some schools use 4.3, so check yours.

Are my grades saved?

No. The math runs in your browser and your classes and grades are not stored. Reload the page and they’re gone.
