How it works

How the score is worked out

Needed score = (grade you want − current grade × (1 − final’s weight)) ÷ final’s weight, with the weight written as a decimal.

Example: you have an 88% and the final is worth 25%. To finish with a 90%: (90 − 88 × 0.75) ÷ 0.25 = 96%.

This assumes your current grade already reflects everything except the final. If you have other work left, or your teacher drops a low score, your real number will differ.

Questions

Before you start.

How do I find how much my final is worth?

Your syllabus usually lists it as a percentage. If it doesn’t, ask your teacher, because the answer changes a lot with the weight.

What if I need more than 100%?

Then that grade can’t be reached with the final alone. The calculator shows the most you can finish with if you get a perfect score.

What if the number is 0 or below?

You already have that grade locked in, even with a zero on the final. Check that skipping the final doesn’t have other penalties at your school.

Does this work for points-based classes?

Yes, if you turn it into percentages first. Divide the points you’ve earned by the points possible so far, and divide the final’s points by the class’s total points.

Are my grades saved?

No. The math runs in your browser and nothing you type is stored.
